National Night Out – Save the Date

Jess Harben Partnership

Jess Harben Elementary PTA

The NCPNA is establishing a stronger partnership with Jess Harben Elementary School in the coming year! The school will have a table at our National Night Out on Tuesday, October 7th.

Mark your calendars for October 30th for the 50th anniversary celebration of the school!

If you would like to volunteer at the school during the school day to support teachers or help with other projects, please go to rmgrins@aol.com.

NCPNA Supports Texas Hill Country Flood Victims

Where to Donate and Help Central Texas Flood Relief Efforts - Tribeza

Our neighborhood is collecting donations to help the families impacted by the tragic Hill Country floods. For a minimum $10 donation you will receive a green plastic ribbon to display in your yard to show your support. We will send a donation for the total raised to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, a program of the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.

$420 Donated to Kerr County Flood Relief so far!

Thanks to Betty Verhalen and Vicki Bean for leading this fundraising effort. We know many neighbors have contributed to various groups aiding the flood victims in Central Texas. If you would like to donate further, please ask that it be part of the North College Park Neighborhood fund and send a check to:

A big thanks to Linda and Gary Vaughn for leading the YOM team this year and to our neighbors selecting our monthly winners!  If you would like to help and are not already on the team, please contact Linda.  lwvaughn48@gmail.com

We also want to thank Bruce Miller Nursery for providing the gift cards awarded to the winner and runner-up each month from May through September.  We provide special gift cards for October and our holiday selection in December.

Let’s get outside and make North College Park look great!

>>> Monthly Book Club

It was so wonderful to have such a big group join for the discussion of The Women by Kristin Hannah for July. We had a sobering discussion talking about the book and the very real impacts that the Vietnam War (and war in general) can have on us personally and as a country. We always love our discussions, but especially when so many people offer their thoughts!

Our next book club is in August at Connie LaLumia’s Home (1106 Horizon Trail) on Saturday August 23rd from 1-2:30pm. We’re reading “James” by Percival Everett. This is a modern take on Huckleberry Finn and sure to be a long-time classic novel. Brimming with the electrifying humor and lacerating observations that have made Everett a literary icon, this brilliant and tender novel radically illuminates Jim’s agency, intelligence, and compassion as never before.

If you’d like to join us for this book club, start suggesting books to read with us, or just meet a wonderful group of people please email spateshannah@gmail.com.

You can read our monthly newsletter right here!

>>> Crime Patrol May report

With Crime Patrol, no news is good news! Our next Crime Patrol meeting is August 7th, 6pm at Rocco’s in Richardson. Stay vigilant and talk to your neighbors.

We are ready to welcome you to Crime Watch. Please email Doug Freeman at d1004free@aol.com to join!

>>> House Number Project

We have an incredibly special house number project in NCPNPA. Volunteers will create a handmade wooden sign for your back fence to comply with city regulations. This service is FREE to members. These signs make it easier for emergency services to find your residence. Contact Doug Freeman, d1004free@aol.com for yours if you don’t have one!
