Rain Rain go away

Wow, have we had a lot of rain lately. The good news is that our water bills are lower and all of the flowers, lawns and trees are looking great. Time to get out and enjoy the good weather and start to get back to normal.

Ice cream in the Park, A smashing good time!

The Ice cream social was a great success. Thanks to April Anderson who pulled this together and thanks you to all who attended the May Ice Cream Social by Tongue In Cheek Ice Cream. It was wonderful to see so many neighbors with over 60 scoops served!! The rain held off and we all got to enjoy sweet treats by a wonderful local business. You can plan to see many more of these events in the future.

Yard of the Month

Our dedicated judges again roved the neighborhood looking for yards to feature for the Yard of the month.

The Runner-up for June, David and Lisa Prusha, 1205 Horizon. They received a $25 gift certificate from Bruce Miller Nursery.

The Winner for June, Bruce and Penny Farrall, 1117 Morningstar. They received a $25 gift certificate from Bruce Miller Nursery.

Back Yard Tour

Our first-ever back yard tour was a success! About 45 folks braved the heat and humidity yesterday to tour seven beautiful back yards and voted on their favorite yards. Each had their own unique distinction and personality, and after a very close vote, here are the winners:

First place: David and Lisa Prusha, 1205 Horizon, winner of a $50 Bruce Miller’s gift certificate

Second place: Bruce and Betsy Blais, 1206 Serenade, winner of a $25 Bruce Miller’s gift certificate.

Thanks to all that participated and got to meet some neighbors! Here are some pictures: http://ncpna.org/Y2021_Back_yards/

Fourth of July Motorcade, Saturday July 3rd

The 4th of July Celebration to include Caravan with Kona Ice at the Park and a Patriotic Yard Decorating Contest!

We will repeat our caravan from last year on Saturday, the 3rd and gather at 9:30 am at Glenville Park with the caravan starting at 10:00 am. Decorate your vehicles with a patriotic theme and the winner will receive a $50 gift card and 2nd place $25! No walking or bikes are allowed in the caravan. Judging will occur just before the caravan begins and drivers are required to follow the lead vehicle and the designated route, and to not impede normal traffic. All neighbors are encouraged to be in their yards by 10 am to welcome and cheer on the caravan as it passes by! To let us know if you plan to participate or if you have questions, contact Robert Grinsfelder: rmgrins@aol.com. Last minute participants are welcome!

After the caravan, everyone is invited to the park for Kona Ice snow cones and other snacks! The NCPNA Association will provide a free Kona Ice and each additional one is $3.00. Look for April Anderson by the truck to get your ticket for a free Kona Ice!

Decorate your house and yard with a patriotic theme, flags, bunting, streamers and such and be creative! Homes will be judged between 10 am and 3 pm on Saturday, the 3rd with 1st Place receiving a $50 gift card and 2nd place $25. This replaces the YOM contest for July and we hope to see red, white and blue everywhere!

We look forward to many neighbors joining our 4th of July celebration!

Book Club

Our next NCPNA book club meet-up is Sunday 6/27 from 1-3pm in April Anderson’s backyard (1111 Morningstar). We’re mixing up the schedule and meeting on Sundays to accommodate more schedules, so please come join us even if you haven’t yet! We’re meeting on an every other month schedule now. Our book for June is “The Guest List” by Lucy Foley. It is a page turning who-dunnit mystery we can’t wait to discuss! Please join us any time by emailing at adawn0105@gmail.com if you’d like to join!

Flag Program

We had a few glitches with flags and these are being corrected. We apologize for the problems.

If you want a “booster” sign, please let Vicki Bean V.Bean@att.net know and we will get you a sign.

Small Business Spotlight

If you have a small business you want to highlight, please email April Anderson at adawn0105@gmail.com for consideration. We want to support you!

Crime Watch Report

We met with our Crime Patrol officer and he reports that we had another great month. The neigborhoods immediately around us are have more problems. He credits our success to our active crime watch patrollers who are seen by the “bad guys” who then go elsewhere.

The major issue continues to be theft from vehicles, most of which were unlocked. Visible items like laptops, purses, wallets will get taken and a window broken if the door is locked. Don’t make it easy for thieves. Porch pirates continue to be a problem, remove your items promptly.

Stay alert, if you see activity in the neighborhood which does not feel right, call 911. We can always use additional crime patrol volunteers, on foot or in your vehicle. Contact our crime patrol coordinator for more information. Doug Freeman at d1004free@aol.com

Crime patrol training class, June 23, 2021, 6:00PM

Become a member of our crime patrol team. You can do a patrol while walking or in your car. Advance registration is required, more information here.

Act of Kindness

This Act of Kindness actually happened when Vicki Bean and Janice Gromadin were delivering a Welcome Basket to a new neighbor on Windsong. The new neighbor saw a dog across the street and wanted to know if the dog was ours! We left the neighbor and Janice got the dog, who was wearing collar with a phone number, and tried to call but no answer! She said she would keep the dog until she found the owner! Janice you are an animal lover!! Thanks for being the Momma to the lost dog! And as it turned out the dog belonged to a neighbor on Rainbow who Janice knew! The neighbor didn’t realize that the dog got out of the yard! North College Park Neighbors make living here so much better than if we didn’t treat each other with kindness!

Welcome Baskets

Please welcome Roxanne Bledsoe, 902 Windsong Trail, to the neighborhood.

Please welcome Cayce & John Rutledge 1119 Rainbow, to the neighborhood.

Vicki Bean leads a team who assemble and deliver welcome baskets to new residents.

If you know of someone new, let Vicki know and be sure they are aware of the association, newsletter and website. Vicki can be reached at V.Bean@att.net.

About North College Park Neighborhood Association

NCPNA is a neighborhood association and, unlike a homeowner’s association, we do not have any authority over anyone’s property. We sponsor activities and projects to help make our neighborhood a more pleasant and safe place to live. Volunteers are always needed, and we look forward to hearing about new ways to achieve our collective goals.

Contact Robert Grinsfelder at rmgrins@aol.com if you can help with any of these activities.
